The genius of an architect that revolutionized history
Villa La Rotonda by Antonio Palladio near the Vicenza is the next stop for the #italiagrandsketchingtour.
Today I’m at Villa La Rotonda, a Villa designed by Antonio Palladio in 1566, probably one of its masterpieces. But how do you choose?
It reminds of cubic and spherical shapes, as a link to the universal perfection. This Villa in fact is structured as a Temple surrounded by a park and positioned on the top of the hill. It was the first time of the idea that a villa could be just a villa and not a fortress or a place for commerce. A small idea but a great revolution.
In promoting this idea Palladio was risking a lot. And he was lucky because he found many families that were willing to take the risk with him. Still a reminder in my opinion that to change the status quo you need to break the rules of the past and do something new.
The inside is gorgeous, all frescoes and statues and light coming from huge windows and doors everywhere. It is not possible to take pictures but fortunately I’m a sketcher…
Stay tuned!
