Trapani view of Corso Vittorio Emanuele

The majestic historical center of Trapani

Trapani view of Corso Vittorio Emanuele in the historical center with Palazzo Cavarretta, a breathtaking subject for the #italiagrandsketchingtour.

I arrived in Trapani on a Sunday and I went for a walk in the center in the early afternoon. It was a windy day and no one was around and the desert historical center was absolutely majestic. This experience made me feel the breath of history and, at the same time, the seclusion I was looking for.

I believe I elected Trapani as my city for the winter that first afternoon. Because I loved the idea of being surrounded by the sea and all this beauty.

This painting shows the dramatic ending of the Corso Vittorio Emanuele with the palace built by the architect Andrea Palma in 1672 for Don Giacomo Cavarretta. And nowadays it is hosting the municipal building. This watercolor was inspired by a sketch hanging in my B&B that I recognized as a work by Gérard Michel, a great architect and teacher that I was lucky to meet for a workshop on perspective many years ago.
