Stopping to visit the king of the Alpine rivers
The Tagliamento River near Spilimbergo painted during the #italiagrandsketchingtour.
While heading to Spilimbergo, I wanted to see the Tagliamento River. The river touches many towns in the area and it gives name to the valley. Once I got to the bed of the river, after a walk in the fields, I realized how dry it gets in summer. I discovered that this is due to its appearance.
The river in fact has three main parts, depending from the ares. It starts in the mountains, it continues in a middle course with a very wide course and low water, to continue toward the sea with several affluent that make it more rich of water and currents.
The river is actually very important because being useless for commerce, it was never altered by men. Therefore it is considered the only one of the entire Alpine arc and one of the few in Europe to preserve the original morphology with intertwined channels. For this characteristic of high hydromorphological quality, as well as for the uniqueness of the river ecosystem as a whole, it is also called the King of Alpine rivers.Â
