The castle on the hill that oversees the plain since the Longobards
The medieval castle of Artegna Painted during the #italiagrandsketchingtour.
After the trekking, I decided to go visit the medieval castle of Artegna, the last small town in the area that my guide suggested. The castle was built by the Savorgnan family in the middle age. But an older castle was in the area from the Longobard time. This area was directly on the commercial ways between north and south and east and west. Therefore a bigger castle was built and the village grew. Today the castle hosts a museum, with a very interesting archeological collection that narrates the history of the area.
The view from my sketch is not the most common one, but it was the only one I found that could be sketched from a comfortable angle instead of standing in the middle of the street. Sometimes in sketching, it happens that choices are limited but they bring you to see things from an uncommon perspective. And usually the result is even more interesting than expected.
After returning to the town center, and before going back to Gemona, I stopped for a drink and to finish the coloring of the sketch in a quiet place, and while painting the waitress at the bar saw me and came to chat because she also is an artist. We shared our views on art and its possibilities and, of course, a connection that will accompany me through my trip was created.
