Spending Sunday morning sketching in the old town
The loggia of the town hall in Pordenone  painted during the #italiagrandsketchingtour.
On my second day in Pordenone, while my friends were busy, I went to the center of the old town of Pordenone and decided to sketch the Town Hall while having coffee on one of the outside tables arranged for the Pordenone Legge Festival, in the middle of Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the Main Street of the old town.
The Town Hall of Pordenone with its ancient Loggia and the tower with the clock is the symbol of the historical center of the city. It was built in the 13th century, between 1291 and 1395, completely in bricks, with a trapezoidal plan. Part of the ground floor is semi-enclosed by large pointed arches.
In the lower part, it opens up in a sort of porch, and it is preceded by the tower front surmounted by a large astronomical-lunar clock. The tower was built in 1542, after the Venetian occupation. Two stone Moors were placed on the top of the clock, striking the hours. In more recent times, in 1928, the Palace was enlarged by the architect Cesare Scoccimarro, who used the free space behind the building that separated it from the old buildings towards the south.
