Painting the Fountain of the Neptune in Watercolor
Welcome to Piazza Vittoria in Gorizia, one of the main Squares in the cita that was called in fact “Piazza Grande”. I painted this during the first day of the  #italiagrandsketchingtour, my project to discover and paint the beauties of Italy.
Piazza della Vittoria grew since the 18th Century after the city of Gorizia started to become an important touristic venue for the Austrian bourgeoisie. Its Fountain of Neptune was designed in 1756 by Nicolò Pacassi, the architect that designed Schönbrunn Castle in Wien. It aimed to to remind to the visitors the long history of the city under the Austrian empire.
The square in really beautiful and the perspective gives you a majestic impression, that was meant to impress all the bourgeoisie that in this city came for their vacations by the sea, building villas and parks that still adorn the city.
Gorizia was my first stop and my first day, and it was so cool, hot and relaxing and very challenging!
