The church that changes on each side
The Cathedral of the Saint Savior in Mazara del Vallo admired and painted during the #italiagrandsketchingtour.
The Cathedral was the real surprise of Mazara del Vallo. I managed to visit the inside just for few minutes before closing and I was mesmerized by the beauty of it, rich baroque in white and gold and beautiful frescoes, that rise the soul of the visitor in admiration. At this sight, my mind ran to admiring the humans abilities and the results that we are able to reach when the goal is clear and the love (for God in this case) is guiding us.
Once outside, in the midday sun I walked around and the thing that I loved the most is that the cathedral is a sort of combination of buildings due to the construction that started in the 11th Century and finished in the 20th Century with the remodeling of the facade. Therefore from each side the view changes completely. And the imagination runs to fill in the spaces between the different perspectives.
I have chosen this view, from the Repubblica Square, because I loved the big space on the lateral side that allows the building to breath. The statue and the small palms decorate and create great harmony with the complexity of the building and I thought they were the perfect subject for my draw.
