The Carmine Square with its beautiful convent
In the center of Marsala the Monastery of the Carmine is a great view for the #italiagrandsketchingtour.
At the end of November, I love the opportunity of painting this beautiful square under the warmth of the sun. The Carmelite‘s Friars, coming from Palestine, founded this complex around the XIII Century. Through the centuries this area was sacred and it is now dedicated to art, since the complex is now a Museum. It reminds me of the sacrality of art as a way to express the beauty that each one of us experiences.
In particular, I wanted to play with the perspective of the octagonal bell tower with helical staircase in yellow tuff. Because, with its special architectural and compositional character, it is considered one of the wonders of Sicily. I totally agree!
