Ecomuseo delle acque at Ospitaletto near Gemona

Few years ago I read about the project of an open air museum created from the collaboration of 6 small townships and aiming to promote the land and its traditions. I was really curious about it and the flyer of the Ecomuseo of the water sat on my desk, waiting for me to use it. Finally the time has come.
Today I was a guest at the WaterMill near Gemona, in Ospitaletto. This is the headquarter of the Museum but it is also an incredible source of historical surprises. This in fact is the sketch of a handmade machine dated 1815 circa that has been used until the earthquake in Friuli in 1976 by all the farmers of the area to break the corn into flour.
The building itself is much older. In the 13th century this area became the center of the valley and mills were built for the communities that were forming around. Along the river, there were 9 mills. Now only two remain. As mentioned, this is the headquarters of the EcoMuseo delle Acque and it is definitely worth a visit because of the history and because of the great people that you will find here to explain it to you.
In one of the pictures there is also the amazing Pan de Scorc that is worth a mention. It is a bread that is registered with Slowfood because it is a corn bread prepared with particular kind of biological flours that were recovered and recreated using the ancient receipt, and it is very good! It is the bread of the Sundays and of the festivities.
